Respiratory tract infections are a major cause of mortality, morbidity, and disability worldwide, and colonized bacteria are the dominant causative agents of infectious lung disease and are associated with many complications of lung disease. Although progress has been made in the diagnosis and treatment, unfortunately, there are many challenges regarding the antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections. Polymeric microparticles can contribute to improving pharmacokinetics, stabilization of therapeutic agents against possible enzymatic and\/or hydrolytic degradation. The interactions of microparticles with lung cells depend on the physicochemical characteristics of the particles such as size, shape, hydrophobicity, surface charge and all these factors will influence the diffusion of microparticles through the mucus at the lung level. Embedding zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles into polymeric microparticles can provide improved mechanical strength, biocompatibility, and enhanced functionality. Antibacterial effects of ZnO nanoparticles have been indicated toward a wide spectrum of organisms (Escherichia Coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas Aeruginosa). Considering this informations,the aim of this project was to develop new peptide-functionalized biocomposite microparticles with superior antibacterial properties used for treatment of lung infections.<\/p>\n
