results<\/h2>\n<p>During\u00a0<strong>stage I<\/strong>\u00a0entitled: \u201e<strong>Synthesis and characterization of the precursors for the further<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>preparation of N \/ MPs<\/strong>\u201d several activities were carried out as follows:<br \/>\n<strong>Act 1.1<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Synthesis and characterization of carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS)<br \/>\n<strong>Act 1.2<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Conjugation of CMCS with CGSPGWVRC and indolicidin peptides<br \/>\n<strong>Act 1.3<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Synthesis and characterization of fluorescein-labeled CMCS<\/p>\n<p>The obtained materials were characterized from several points of view for the correct correlation<br \/>\nof the properties with the synthesis parameters.<\/p>\n<p>During\u00a0<strong>stage II<\/strong>\u00a0entitled: \u201e<strong>Design and synthesis of peptides-functionalized nano \/<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>microparticles (2PEP-N \/ MPs)<\/strong>\u201d several activities were carried out as follows:<br \/>\n<strong>Act 2.1<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Preparation of nano\/microspheres functionalized with peptides<br \/>\n<strong>Act 2.2<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Preparation of nano\/microcapsules functionalized with peptides<br \/>\nTwo types of peptide-functionalized particles, nano\/microsphere and nano\/microcapsules, were<br \/>\nprepared.<\/p>\n<p>During\u00a0<strong>stage III<\/strong>\u00a0entitled: \u201e<strong>Characterization of nano \/ microparticles functionalized with<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>peptides (2PEP-N \/ MPs)<\/strong>\u201d several activities were carried out as follows:<br \/>\n<strong>Act 3.1<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Physico-chemical characterization and correlation of the structure with the properties of<br \/>\n2PEP-N \/ MPs<br \/>\n<strong>Act 3.2<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Dexamethasone loading and in vitro release studies<\/p>\n<p>During\u00a0<strong>stage IV<\/strong>\u00a0entitled: \u201eEvaluation of the biomaterial properties of the 2PEP-N\/MPs\u201d several<br \/>\nactivities were carried out as follows:<br \/>\n<strong>Act 4.1<\/strong>\u00a0Enzymatic biodegradability studies<br \/>\n<strong>Act 4.2<\/strong>\u00a0In vitro evaluation of 2PEP-N\/MPs interaction with blood components<br \/>\n<strong>Act 4.3<\/strong>\u00a0Protein adsorption studies<br \/>\n<strong>Act 4.4<\/strong>\u00a0Bioadhesion tests<br \/>\n<strong>Act 4.5<\/strong>\u00a0Optimization of the preparation process of 2PEP-N\/MPs<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>In stage V entitled: &amp;quot;In vitro evaluation of 2PEP-N\/MPs&amp;quot; several activities were carried out as<br \/>\nfollows:<br \/>\n<strong>Act 5.1<\/strong> &#8211; Antimicrobial activity of 2PEP-N\/MPs<br \/>\n<strong>Act 5.2<\/strong> &#8211; Synthesis and characterization of fluorescein-labeled 2PEP-N\/MPs<br \/>\n<strong>Act 5.3<\/strong> &#8211; In vitro evaluation of the cytotoxic impact of 2PEP-N\/MPs on both normal lung cells<br \/>\nand RAW 264.7 macrophages<br \/>\n<strong>Act 5.4<\/strong> &#8211; Clonogenic assay of the efficacy of 2PEP-N\/MPs therapy on the viability and<br \/>\nproliferation of tested cells<br \/>\n<strong>Act 5.5<\/strong> &#8211; Estimation of in vitro cellular uptake of 2PEP-N\/MPs<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>stage VI<\/strong> entitled: \u201c<strong>In vitro evaluation of apoptosis and anti-inflammatory potential of<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>2PEP-N\/MPs and preliminary in vivo tests\u201d<\/strong> several activities were carried out as follows:<br \/>\n<strong>Act 6.1<\/strong> &#8211; Investigation of the cell apoptosis process in both normal lung cells and RAW 264.7<br \/>\nmacrophage cells under the action of 2PEP-N\/MPs<br \/>\n<strong>Act 6.2<\/strong> &#8211; Evaluation of the anti-inflammatory potential of 2PEP-N\/MPs in model cell cultures<br \/>\n<strong>Act 6.3<\/strong> &#8211; Selection of optimal 2PEP-N\/MPs for in vivo tests<br \/>\n<strong>Act 6.4<\/strong> &#8211; In vivo biodistribution assays of fluorescein-labeled
