Prof. dr.ing. Dr.H.C.Marcel Popa has obtained the title of doctor in 1989 at the Polytechnic Institute of Iasi.

He has an important experience in research in various fields concerning macromolecular compounds, especially in polymer biomaterials: bioactive polymers (polymers syetems containing drug, enzymes, cells, microorganisms encapsulated), hydrogels (films, micro- and nanoparticles), drug delivery, interpenetrating networks, chemical modifications of polysaccharides. He coordinated the theses of 44 certified doctors, he is Chief Editor or member of the editorial committee of 6 scientific journals. He has received numerous awards and medals for the research activity as the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of 2 universities from France, and he is a member of the Romanian Academy of Sciences. The scientific research activity resulted in 10 books published (2 abroad), 31 monographs and chapters of books published abroad, 458 published works (295 in ISI journals), 548 papers presented at scientific events (402 international), 20 national patents, 2 books edited abroad. He participated as member of director at over 70 contracts and grants (one international).

He has a valuable practical experience not only in the synthesis and molecular characterization of tailor-made block or graft copolymers but also on their colloidal characterization. In fact, he studied the self-assembly of different types of amphiphilic block and graft copolymers in aqueous or non-aqueous media as a function of the molecular characteristics of the copolymers, temperature, pH, absence or presence of anionic surfactants. Actually, he is the Dean of the Faculty of Dental Medicine and the Coordinator of the Biomaterials department from University “Apollonia” of Iasi. His areas of expertise include several research axes, such as: synthesis and physicochemical characterization of copolymers, self-assembly of amphiphilic block and graft copolymers, interactions between anionic surfactants and copolymers, emulsions, hydrogels, and drug delivery systems. He published 31 ISI articles (23 as first or corresponding author) (IF >110 and over 270 citations), 5 books chapters, and has over 40 communications.

Experience in the preparation of drug delivery systems based on synthetic and natural polymers. Experience: My research activity is carried out in the cell culture laboratory of the “Apollonia” University of Iasi, and the skills obtained in working techniques on cell cultures, allow me to evaluate, in vitro, the cytotoxicity of various materials with applicability in medicine.

She has an important experience in research in various fields concerning Otorhinolaryngology, especially in otology, ear implants and genetic of deafness. She was part of the team that perfomed the first Cochlear Implantation in Romania in 2000 and since than she implanted over 700 cochlear implants. She organized and was the President of the Organizing Committee of the14th edition of the European Symposion of Paediatric Cochlear Implants held in Bucharest in 2019. She coordinates 7 PhD theses. She is member of the editorial committee of 2 scientific journals. She has received numerous awards for her activity and also the title of Visiting professor. The scientific research activity resulted in 4 books published, over 100 published works, over 200 papers presented at scientific events (30 international), 1 national patents. Experience in evaluation of interaction between some natural or synthetic compounds with genetic material in order to establish the main mechanisms implied in the cellular response.
